Abstract
This paper explores the utilization path and value transformation of ancientals' color resources in contemporary heavy color painting. As a visual carrier of historical culture, the colors of ancient murals, with the texture of mineral pigments (such as azite and cinnabar), the technique of overlapping color gradation, and the regional characteristic color (such as Dunhuang's green and blue and Yongle Palaces heavy color), have constructed a rich traditional color system. Contemporary heavy color painting directly borrows classic color combinations, reconstructs color proportions to adapt to modern aesthetics, and the re-creation of color elements. In terms of techniques and materials, it continues the principle of "assigning colors according to categories", integrates modern materials such as aclics and metal foils, and expands the expressive power. At the same time, it transforms the religious symbolic colors in murals into contemporary interpretations of nature and humanity, andows traditional colors with new emotional connotations. The modern interpretation cases of Dunhuang and Yongle Palace murals show that this utilization not only retains the traditional sense of thickness but promotes the breakthrough of heavy color painting from decorative to conceptual expression, providing a balanced path for the inheritance of traditional culture and the innovation of contemporary art.
