As an essential component of Sichuan Opera performance art, Sichuan Opera masks shape characters' personalities and destinies through the symbolic combination of colors, patterns, and lines. Research has shown that based on the five colors—red, black, white, blue, and yellow—a rigorous color semantic system has been established. This system not only distinguishes loyalty and treachery, good and evil but also delicately portrays the complexity of characters through the subtle use of color purity, area, and contrast. Sichuan Opera masks are not merely a decorative visual art but also a mature theatrical visual sign system, holding a unique and significant position in the art of Chinese opera faci al makeup.
