A Study on the Application of Situational Teaching in Junior High School Art Color Classes

Abstract

With the implementation of the Art Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education (2022 Edition), junior secondary art education in China is undergoing a shift from skill-based training to the cultivation of core competencies. As the core language of visual art, color instruction often falls into the dilemma of theoretical dullness and mechanical practice due to a lack of contextualization. Based on the Junior High School Art Textbook published by Jiangsu Phoenix Juvenile and Children's Publishing House, this study explores the value of contextualized teaching in color instruction. By constructing diverse learning contexts—such as life-based perception, cultural interpretation, multimedia experiences, and problem-based inquiry—the study seeks to break down the barriers between color knowledge and students’ lived experiences. The findings indicate that deconstructing abstract color theories within concrete contexts effectively lowers cognitive thresholds and stimulates students’ inquiry motivation, thereby enhancing their color perception and expressive abilities through authentic aesthetic experiences.
